About

We went a little crazy buying funny hats at Target.

I’m on the left, with my ladyfriend on the right!

My name is Allie and I’m a second year Ph.D. student at Yale University (I’m still trying to figure out why they let me in). My research might be cell biology, microbiology, or immunology, depending on who you ask. I started this blog because I am appalled by the lack of both female and queer role models in STEM (that’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, so I thought I would throw myself out there and see what happens!

I’ll probably post a lot about nail polish and perfume, with a few scientific rants sprinkled about for good measure. I’m practicing writing for a wide audience, so hopefully everyone can follow 😉

By the way…the fishy background behind the name of my blog is an allusion to how I wanted to be a marine biologist in middle school. I also wanted to be an astronaut, applied mathematician, and engineer back in the day. I guess I’ve always been STEM oriented!
